MEMBERS GALLERIES - Ian Costello
This is my latest build using the Scalecast British heritage moulds. I like to cast lots of moulds and then lay them out and move things around, to get a feel for the build, I am about to create. Some of the areas on the building are bespoke, as I like to just use my imagination to see what works and where it looks good, so, I often use other moulds and casts, just cutting casts up if needed to get what I think looks good.
Below are just a few of the photos showing my build progress. |
PIGGPYMPLES - July 2023
This is the Dibley branch of Hogwarts, I am calling it PIGGPYMP0LES. I will be working on the paintwork next, which may take some time. when I have completed my project I will be sending the photos to Scalecast for inclusion on my dedicated page.

Miss Marple's Tea Room in the park - March 2023
This section of the layout was originally planned to be a scenery-free zone, sort of a back-stage area where the trains would enter through one tunnel go around a 180 degree curve and exit via the other tunnel.
Several years ago David (my neighbour and owner of the layout) bumped into an old school friend Phil at a model expo. Phil offered to come on board to install all the trackwork and electrics which was a big relief for me as that is absolutely not my area of expertise. It was Phil who suggested we turn this 'vacant lot' into a mid 1950's industrial city scape with all it's smoke and grime. It has meant a lot of extra work, including casting over 20 brick retaining wall sections but it has definitely been worth it and has added a whole new dimension to the layout. David purchased several plastic kits ( which I altered dramatically ) and we re-purposed some others he had been given to create the factory zone. I found working with kits nowhere near as satisfying as creating in plaster. There is a large low-relief warehouse under construction to fill the gap in the background and a small Tearoom to be installed in the park. I constructed the tower a few years ago when Scalecast released detail moulds as part of the stone range. I was so involved in trying them out, the tower grew too tall and intricate for it's original site in the main layout so I am very pleased we found a more suitable spot for it. The industrial city could be any major metropolis in the UK from that time so in keeping with the nonsense theme of the rest of the layout I have named it LONDONPOOLCHESTERHAM. |

The new Dibley Pub - May 2022
The new pub is now open for business ! In keeping with the general TV theme of Dibley we named it after Coronation St's watering hole even though it looks nothing like the original.
Scalecast provided me a few free moulds and asked if I could add a little inspiration. So I hope you like what I did with this brick mould and it can offer a little inspiration to fellow modellers. |

DIBLEY FORUM CINEMA by Ian Costello - February 2022
Opening Day of Arkwright's Dibley Store - November 2021
Ian shared some of the models he has built and sent them over to us in early 2019. Ian likes to improvise and mix some of his casts together to make bespoke amazing buildings which we are sure you will agree look absolutely awesome. Using his imagination Ian show just what can be achieved when you make it up as you go along.
Ian also shared some of the lineside tunnels and retaining walling that he has been working on with his neighbour this year as shown below. his neighbour is disabled and they have been working on these together through 2019, it is such an inspirational story and I think you will agree with us when we say what an amazing job they have done. |
These are the latest of Ian's amazing models, sent in to us in the summer of this year (2021) - Ian is clearly a master in his own right and pays so much attention to detail, taking pride in every aspect of his work - A real inspiration to fellow model makers.
